dicha: vintage and antique jewellery

I recently came across the brand Dicha, and have fallen completely and utterly head over heels.

Dicha, which means happiness or joy in Spanish, was launched in February 2009 by UK designers Diane Metta and Chantal Laren, and focuses on restyling antique jewelery and accessories, to create exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces. My love for vintage jewelery started when I received an antique silver bangle, originally from the 1930's, as a gift from a friend in England, and since then I've become an avid fan of vintage and antique jewelery as I'm fascinated by the idea that the jewelery has a history of its own, and has been loved and treasured by other people before me. Unfortunately though, I might have to wait a while before a Dicha piece can be added to my collection, as the prices are quite incredibly high, but hopefully one day I will be able to call a Dicha piece my own!

Below are a few of my favourite pieces from their very first collection, 'Decades', and if you want to view their full collection you can visit their website: http://dicha.co.uk/

ombré hair (trend)

One of my current favorite hair trends has to be the 'ombré' hair, yet I realise this might be a little controvesial, as I've noticed that it's rather quite like marmite, as either people love it or hate it...

Ombré  is a french word, and literally means gradation, which refers to the dark-to-light fade of color that is used in the technique. Instead of color that starts at the root, darker roots blend into a lightened mid-shaft and end. The overall effect is quite a relaxed, casual and beach look, although it's a look that not for everyone

There are several different variations of the ombré hair trend, from the rather 'out-there' radical contrast between the two shades, illustrated below by Drew Barrymore, Lady Gaga and stylist Stylist Katie Shillingford...

to the slightly calmer and more subtle contrast supported again by Drew Barrymore, Shenae Grimes and Alexa Chung...

to the extremely subtle, barely-there look worn by Julia Roberts, Lily Aldrington, Jessica Biel and Sarah Jessica Parker...

I myself have felt like making a drastic change to my hair, maybe this will be my new look?

What do you think??

Ok Go!

I recently heard that Ok Go had released a video for their new single 'White knuckles' and I couldn't wait to see it! Ok Go are perhaps most famous for their single and video for 'Here it goes again', otherwise known as the music video with the treadmills. Their new video does not disappoint, and instead of treadmills or a rube goldberg machine, its a music video with dogs. Yes, dogs. This usually spells disaster, but somehow I think they've made it work, and the doggies are simply adorable!

Below are their two other quirky videos...

les khakis

I am always on the hunt for new nail polishes, and new colours, and my nails are nearly always painted. Once again, like with my jewelery, this has probably reached the stage of an unhealthy addiction, and my bathroom cupboard is jam-packed with all my nail polishes in different colours and from different makes. My favourite brands include Herome (a stunning array of different colours, and lovely quality), O.P.I (great quality, luxury nail polish!), Model's own, and I also really recommend H+M nail polishes, as they have the trendiest colours, are great quality and only cost 3.95 euro!

Chanel's 'Les khakis' collection for autumn, are the colours currently on my wish-list.  The collection consists of three limited-editions hues — Khaki Rose, a dusky pink-beige; Khaki Vert, a mossy foam green; and Khaki Brun, a pale stony taupe, and I think that each of these three would be the perfect finishing touch to any autumn outfit!

However, their prices and the current state of my bank account mean that these three colours will probably remain on my wish-list for a long time, if not foreverr...Which is where I'm quite thankful for Model's Own! The brand has recently released their own new collection, called 'Car Keys' (get it?), which seems to be heavily inspired by the 'Les khakis' collection, at a much more bank account friendly price!

clogs and blogs

With the change of seasons from summer to autumn, also comes the inevitable change of warderobe. It also means that I am on the hunt for a new pair of black boots, to last me through the winter... I already have a pair of basic leather black high boots, and so now I'm looking for something a little different, and something that adds a little something else to my outfit. One of the trends that has caught my eye, is the trend of 'blog' boots, which does not refer to the act of blogging, but it in fact combines the summer trend of clogs with the boot, to form 'blogs', the wearable winter version of the clog. Below are some pictures of blogs that have caught my eye, and that may soon find a way into my winter warderobe...

les bagues

Anyone who knows me well enough, knows that I have quite a serious addiction to jewelry. My outfit is never complete without a piece of jewelery, whether it be a chunky ring, a statement necklace, a silver necklace or a charm bracelet. My collection is quite vast, and I am often lending pieces out to friends for parties, which is something that I love doing, as even though I love every piece I have, I only seem to wear 10% of it, and so this way the other pieces are also still getting worn! Many of friends are also in awe of my dresser table which is home to my IKEA tree of necklaces, my Eiffel tower of rings, and various jewelry boxes and little pots filled to the brim with little pieces... (one day I shall post a picture!)

I have a hard time choosing what my absolute favourite piece is, as I tend to go through phases. Currently the only pieces I wear every day are two silver bracelets, one small Tiffany bracelet which was a gift for my 16th birthday, and a silver bracelet which was also a gift from Syria. I mix and match my earrings and necklaces depending on my outfit, but my new current obsession have to be rings! I already have quite a large assortment of gold, silver, chunky, colourful, beaded, vintage rings, but I am always on the lookout for more!

Below are some of the items currently on my wish-list...

the very first post...

Summer and music are two of my favourite things, and I don't think that I would be able to survive without either of them... this is why, even though dutch summer is pretty much over and the first signs of autumn are appearing, I have decided to start off my very first blog with a post about Baby I'm Yours - Breakbot; a song that will always remind me of summer 2010!

Hope you enjoy it!
